CHILDREN: in-toe or pigeon toed gait

In-toe or pigeon toed gait is a common childhood complaint. It is normal for children to be pigeon toed to some degree at some stages of development. Treatment is only required if the intoeing is above and beyond what is considered ‘normal’. Pigeon toed gait can usually be treated effectively with a combination of shoe inserts or ‘gait plates’ designed to encourage out toeing at every step. Other treatments include specific walking exercises and stretching exercises if required.
